Adding Privacy, Refund and Terms Policies to Your Store

Clear store policies build customer trust and are required by most payment providers (Stripe, PayPal) and ad platforms (Meta, Google). LaunchMyStore ships with editable templates for the core policies you almost certainly need.

Policies you can add

  • Privacy policy — what data you collect and how you use it. Required for advertising on most networks.
  • Refund policy — under what conditions a customer can return an item and get a refund. Required by most payment processors.
  • Terms and conditions — the contract between you and shoppers (governing law, liability limits, acceptable use).

If you need other documents (such as a shipping or cookie notice), you can create a regular storefront page for them and link to it from your footer or menus.

How to publish a policy

  1. Go to SettingsPolicies.
  2. Pick the policy tab you want to publish: Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, or Terms and Conditions.
  3. The editor opens pre-filled with a starter template built from your store name, contact info, and address.
  4. Edit the draft to reflect your actual business rules — the template is a starting point, not legal advice.
  5. Click Add as store page.

Each saved policy is published as a page on your storefront, and the footer of most themes links to them out of the box. You can also link to a policy from any product description or section via the link picker.

Templates are designed to be reasonable starting points but they are not a substitute for legal advice. If you sell internationally, sell regulated goods, or process sensitive data, have the policies reviewed by a lawyer.

FAQ

Are the template policies legally valid?

They are a reasonable starting point that covers common cases, but you are responsible for reviewing and adjusting them for your specific business and jurisdiction.

How do I update a policy after publishing?

Edit it under SettingsPolicies and click Add as store page again. Changes update the linked storefront page immediately.

Can I write my own policy instead of using the template?

Yes. Either replace the text in the policy editor with your own, or create a regular storefront page and link to it from the footer.

Where do policies appear on the storefront?

By default they appear as links in the footer. Most themes also include a policy menu you can add to the main navigation. Each policy also has its own URL (e.g. /policies/refund-policy) you can link to from anywhere.

Do I need policies to enable Stripe or PayPal?

Yes, both Stripe and PayPal require visible privacy and refund policies before approving merchant accounts. Publish them before applying.
