# Build a store for a client and transfer it to them

BUILD A STORE FOR A CLIENT AND TRANSFER IT TO THEM

You can set up a complete LaunchMyStore store for a client before they have an
account: a development store. It's free, it doesn't expire, and only people with
its password can see the storefront. When it's ready, you transfer it to the
client. They set a password, their 7-day free trial starts, and they pick a plan
when they're ready. You keep access to help them, and you earn 20% of every plan
payment the store makes.

CREATE A DEVELOPMENT STORE

 1. In your admin, open Affiliates and go to the Stores tab.
 2. Click Create development store.
 3. Enter the store's name and the client's country, then click Create.

The store appears in the list with the status Development, its web address, and
its storefront password. You can have up to 10 development stores at a time.

WORK IN THE STORE

Click Open store. The store's admin opens in a new tab with a banner at the top,
Managing a client store, and you work in it like any store: products,
collections, theme, pages, menus, shipping, taxes, checkout settings and free
apps. Plan, billing, payment gateways and staff stay off limits until the client
owns the store. Click Exit in the banner to return to your own account.

Good to know: a development store is on the free trial's limits while you build
it. The client picks a plan after the transfer.

THE STOREFRONT PASSWORD

Visitors to a development store see an Opening soon page and a password field,
so nothing is public before launch. Share the password with your client to let
them preview the store. On the Stores tab you can show, copy or regenerate it;
regenerating signs out everyone who used the old password. The password page
comes off automatically when the store is transferred.

TRANSFER THE STORE TO YOUR CLIENT

 1. On the Stores tab, click Transfer next to the store.
 2. Enter the email address your client will use to sign in. It must be an email
that doesn't have a LaunchMyStore account yet.
 3. Add a message if you like, then click Send.

Your client receives an email with a link that works once and is valid for 14
days. The store shows as Transfer pending until they accept; you can cancel the
transfer and send a new one at any time. If the email doesn't reach them, the
link is also shown to you after sending so you can pass it on yourself.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE CLIENT ACCEPTS

 * They enter their name and choose a password, and are signed straight in to
   their new store.
 * The store becomes theirs: their email, their password, their billing. Their
7-day free trial starts at that moment, and they choose a plan whenever
   they're ready.
 * The storefront password page is removed.
 * The store is linked to you as its referrer: you earn 20% of every plan
payment it makes, and the client gets 10% off their first payment, applied
automatically when they pick a plan by card.
 * You keep collaborator access, so you can keep helping after the handover. The
owner can remove it under Affiliates → Access to your store.
 * You're notified in your admin and by email.

DELETE A DEVELOPMENT STORE

A store you no longer need can be deleted from the Stores tab while it's still
in development. This removes the store and everything in it. Transferred stores
belong to their owner and can't be deleted by you.

FAQ

MY CLIENT ALREADY HAS A LAUNCHMYSTORE ACCOUNT. CAN I TRANSFER A STORE TO THEM?

Not to an email that already has an account. Ask them for a new email address,
or build the store directly in their account by asking for access to their store
[https://launchmystore.help.center/article/1166-manage-client-stores].

DOES THE CLIENT NEED A CARD TO ACCEPT THE STORE?

No. Accepting starts a 7-day free trial with no card. They add a card when they
choose a plan.

CAN MY TEAM MEMBERS BUILD STORES TOO?

Yes, if they have the Stores permission. See Add team members to your partner
account
[https://launchmystore.help.center/article/1169-add-team-members-to-your-partner-account].

WHAT DOES THE CLIENT SEE WHILE THE STORE IS IN DEVELOPMENT?

Only the password page, unless you share the storefront password with them.
Search engines don't index it.

Want to work in a store the client already owns instead? See Manage your
clients' stores
