# Selling on the POS: search, scan, discounts, customers and held bills

The Home tab is the sale screen. This guide covers everything you do before
taking payment: finding products, building the cart, discounts, tax, customers
and holding bills.

FIND PRODUCTS

 * Search — type a name or SKU in the search box. Press / or F2 to jump to it.
Press Enter to add the product whose SKU matches exactly (or the only
   result). Esc clears the search.
 * Categories — tap a category chip to show only its products. Tap it again to
   clear it.
 * Favourites — your most-sold items as tiles. Star a product on the Products
tab with Add to favourites. Favourites are shared by every register in the
   store.
 * Barcode scanner — scan on any tab while a shift is open. The item is added
and the register jumps back to Home. Click outside text boxes before
   scanning.
 * Camera — on the Products tab, click Scan barcode, or type the SKU and click
   Find.

A product with variants asks which one. Only active products appear on the
register.

BUILD THE CART

 * Use − and + to change a quantity, and ✕ to remove a line. The bin icon (Clear
   cart) empties the cart.
 * Low stock warnings are only a warning — the sale still goes through.
 * Add custom sale rings up an item that isn't in your catalogue: enter the Item
Title, Item Price and Quantity. This needs the Edit item price at till
   permission.

DISCOUNTS

 1. Tap Apply discount.
 2. Either enter a Discount Code (or pick one under View Available Coupons), or
choose Custom Discount and enter a Percentage or Amount.
 3. Apply it. The tile then reads Remove discount.

Discounts apply to the whole sale. Each person can give a manual discount up to
their limit — cashiers 10% and managers 50% by default. Discount codes are not
limited. See POS multi-staff & permissions
[https://launchmystore.help.center/article/1119].

TAX

Tap Collect Tax to add your store's tax to the sale. It switches off after each
sale, so tap it for every sale that should include tax. If the store has no tax
set up, the register says so.

ADD A CUSTOMER

 * In the cart, click Add Customer, then Select Customer or Add New Customer
   (name and email).
 * Or open the Customer tab, find the customer and click Add to Cart.

A customer on the sale gets an order confirmation email, collects loyalty points
and can pay later. Stores issuing GST invoices also see Customer GSTIN (B2B,
optional).

HOLD A BILL AND FINISH IT LATER

Holding bills is part of the Hold bills feature (on in Quick billing).

 1. Tap Hold bill, name it (a customer's name or token number) and confirm. The
cart clears for the next customer.
 2. To finish it, open Held bills, then Open next to the bill.
 3. Take payment as usual, or tap Save & close to keep it on hold with your
    changes.

Held bills are shared by every register in the store and need an internet
connection. Finish or hold the current sale before opening another. Restaurants
use the same list for table tabs — see Restaurant mode: tables, kitchen tickets
(KOT) and the kitchen display [https://launchmystore.help.center/article/1184].

SHIP ITEMS TO THE CUSTOMER

With the Ship items feature on (Standard style), tap Ship all items, choose a
customer with a delivery address, then pick a shipping method. The shipping
charge is added to the sale.

GIFT CARDS

With the Gift cards feature on, tap Gift card:

 * Redeem gift card — enter the code to take its balance off the sale.
 * Sell gift card — enter the recipient's email and the amount, then add it to
the sale. The card is issued once the sale is paid. Selling gift cards needs
   a manager or above.

NOTES

To add a note to a sale, open it on the Orders tab after payment and click Add
note.
