Apply GST or other tax IDs to orders
If you're registered for GST (India), VAT (EU / UK), or any other sales tax, LaunchMyStore can apply it automatically to orders, render it on invoices, and let customers enter their own tax ID at checkout for B2B sales.
Set your tax registration
- Open the admin and go to Settings → Taxes.
- Click Add tax registration.
- Pick the country / region (India, EU, US states, UK, AU, etc.).
- Enter your tax ID:
- India — GSTIN (15 characters).
- EU — VAT ID (country code + number).
- UK — VAT number.
- Other — your local equivalent.
- Save.
Apply tax to orders
Once a registration is in place, LaunchMyStore applies the right rate to orders that ship to that region. The tax appears as a separate line on the cart, checkout, order confirmation, and invoice.
- India GST — 5% / 12% / 18% / 28% depending on tax classification code; intra-state (CGST + SGST) or inter-state (IGST) chosen automatically based on customer state.
- EU VAT — rate by destination country (OSS rules) or origin (small business).
- US sales tax — per-state nexus rules; supports origin- and destination-based.
- UK VAT — standard 20% (or reduced) on UK shipments.
Per-product tax overrides
If you have product-level tax rates (different tax classification codes, reduced VAT, tax-free categories), enable Advanced catalog tax under Settings → Taxes → Advanced. You can then set a tax class on each product.
Capture customer tax IDs (B2B)
For B2B sales, let customers enter their GSTIN / VAT ID at checkout so it appears on the invoice:
- Go to Settings → Checkout.
- Enable Collect customer tax ID.
- Choose the field label and whether it's optional or required.
The tax ID is stored on the customer record and printed on every future invoice for them.
Invoices
Tax invoices are generated automatically on order completion. Customers receive them by email; you can also download a PDF from the order detail page. The invoice template can be customised under Settings → Invoices.
FAQ
Do I have to register for tax?
Only if your jurisdiction requires it. LaunchMyStore does not tell you when to register — check with a local accountant or tax authority.
Can I run multiple tax registrations?
Yes — for example one GSTIN for India + one VAT number for the UK + a US sales-tax permit. Each registration applies only to orders in that region.
How is tax calculated on shipping?
Depends on your local rules. LaunchMyStore lets you toggle Charge tax on shipping per registration.
What about marketplace tax (US, EU)?
If you sell through a marketplace that collects tax on your behalf, mark those orders accordingly so they don't double-count in your filings.
Can I display prices tax-inclusive?
Yes — under Settings → Taxes toggle Show prices inclusive of tax. Common for EU storefronts.
