Apply GST or sales tax to orders

If your business charges GST or sales tax, LaunchMyStore can add it to orders automatically and show it as a separate line on the cart, checkout, order confirmation, and order details.

How tax works on LaunchMyStore

The tax options you see are based on your store's country (set in your business profile). You configure a single tax setting for your store rather than registering multiple jurisdictions.

  • GST countries (India, Australia, Malaysia, Maldives, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, United Arab Emirates) — set one GST number and one GST percentage.
  • United States — add a tax rate per state.
  • Canada — add a tax rate per province.
  • Other countries — set a rate for each destination country you sell to.

Set up GST

If your store is in a GST country, go to Settings → Taxes and:

  1. Turn on GST.
  2. Choose how your product prices are entered:
    • Inclusive of tax — GST is already included in the listed price, so no extra tax is added at checkout.
    • Exclusive of tax — GST is calculated and added separately at checkout, on top of the product price.
  3. Enter your GST number.
  4. Enter your GST percentage (for example 5, 12, 18, or 28 in India).
  5. Click Save.

Once enabled, the GST rate is applied to orders and shown as a separate line on the cart, checkout, and order confirmation.

Set up sales tax (US and Canada)

If your store is in the United States or Canada, go to Settings → Taxes and add a tax rate for each state or province where you need to charge tax. Each entry has a region and a percentage. The matching rate is applied to orders based on the customer's location.

Set up tax for other countries

For stores outside the GST list and outside the US and Canada, go to Settings → Tax and add a rate for each country you sell to. The rate a customer is charged comes from their shipping address, and you choose whether your prices already include tax — which is what EU and UK consumer sales require.

See Charge the right VAT or sales tax for each country you sell to for the full walkthrough.

Invoices and order records

Order details, including the tax amount, appear on the order confirmation the customer receives and on the order page in your admin. You can download an order receipt from the order in your admin.

FAQ

Do I have to register for tax?

Only if your jurisdiction requires it. LaunchMyStore does not tell you when to register — check with a local accountant or tax authority.

Can I run more than one tax setting at a time?

Each store has a single tax configuration based on its country: one GST number and rate for GST countries, or per-state/province rates for the US and Canada. There is no multi-jurisdiction registration manager.

Can I show prices with tax included?

Yes. For GST stores, choose Inclusive of tax when setting up GST so the rate is built into the listed price instead of being added at checkout.

How do I change my tax rate?

Go back to Settings → Taxes, update the percentage (or the per-state/province rate), and save. The new rate applies to future orders.
