Customer accounts on your storefront
Customer accounts let returning buyers come back, see their order history, manage saved addresses, and check the balance on any gift cards they've been issued. This article covers what buyers experience and what you control as a merchant.
How buyers sign in
The storefront uses passwordless email login. A buyer enters their email address, receives a one-time verification code, and lands on their account dashboard. There's no password to remember, reset, or leak — and no separate sign-up step. The first time someone verifies an email, an account is created automatically.
What buyers see in their account
After signing in, the buyer lands on a clean account dashboard with these sections:
- Order history — every order they've placed with your store, with status, item count, total, and order number. They can open an individual order to see line items and tracking details.
- Profile — display name (editable) and the email address tied to the account.
- Addresses — buyers can save multiple shipping addresses, edit them, delete them, and mark one as the default that pre-fills at checkout.
- Gift cards — any gift cards issued to that buyer appear here with the masked code, remaining balance, and status (active, expired, fully redeemed, disabled).
Guest checkout
By default, buyers don't need an account to place an order — your checkout supports guest purchases. You can require buyers to sign in before checking out by turning Guest Checkout off in your checkout settings. Leaving it on is the safer choice for conversion; turning it off makes sense for wholesale, members-only, or invite-driven stores.
Branding the account area
The account dashboard automatically uses your store name and logo in the header. Buyers always see they're on your store, not a generic LaunchMyStore page.
FAQ
Do buyers need to create an account before they can buy?
No. Guest checkout is enabled by default, so a buyer can complete an order with just an email and shipping address. If they later sign in with that same email, their past orders are linked to the account automatically.
How does login work without a password?
The buyer types their email address and receives a numeric code by email. They enter that code to sign in. The code expires shortly after it's sent, so an attacker who steals an old code can't replay it.
Can buyers save multiple shipping addresses?
Yes. They can add as many addresses as they like from the profile page, edit them, delete them, and pick which one is the default. The default address is pre-filled at checkout.
Where do gift cards show up?
If you issue a gift card to a buyer's email, it appears in the Gift cards panel inside their account dashboard, with the masked code and current balance.
What happens to a buyer's past orders if they sign in for the first time?
If they placed previous orders as a guest using the same email address, those orders are tied to the new account when they verify the email. Their order history shows up automatically — no manual claim step needed.
