Stores in India can issue GST tax invoices from the register: each item taxed at its own GST rate, HSN codes, CGST and SGST or IGST, and invoice numbers that run through the financial year. You can also generate the e-invoice (IRN) and e-way bill for B2B bills and export GSTR-1 for the month.

Before you start

  • Your store's country must be India.
  • The GST invoice, e-invoice and GSTR-1 feature is on by default in the Quick billing style. In Standard, switch it on under More > Register style. See POS register styles: Standard and Quick billing.
  • Set each product's GST rate and HSN on its product page. Items without a rate use your store's GST rate.

Set up GST invoices

  1. Go to More > Billing > GST tax invoice and switch on Issue GST tax invoices.
  2. Check the Legal business name, Store GSTIN and Address on the invoice (they start from your account details), and add the City and PIN code. The State code is taken from your GSTIN if you leave it blank.
  3. Set an Invoice number prefix (up to 4 characters) and choose whether to Show HSN codes.
  4. Save.

Each item is taxed at its own rate (Tax each item at its own GST rate).

Bill with GST

  1. Ring up the sale and tap Collect Tax. GST is only added while Collect Tax is on, and it switches off after each sale.
  2. For a business customer, click Customer GSTIN (B2B, optional) and enter their GSTIN.
  3. Take payment as usual.

Within your state the bill shows CGST and SGST. When the customer's GSTIN is from another state it shows IGST. Customers without a GSTIN are treated as local.

The printed bill says TAX INVOICE and shows your GSTIN, the customer's GSTIN, HSN codes, taxable value, the tax at each rate and any round-off.

Invoice numbers

Invoices are numbered prefix / financial year / number — for example INV/26-27/00042. Numbers run consecutively across all your registers and restart each financial year (April to March).

Generate an e-invoice (IRN)

Set up

  1. Go to More > Billing > GST e-invoice and e-way bill and switch on Turn on e-invoicing.
  2. Choose Sandbox (testing) or Production, and enter the credentials from your GST suvidha provider (GSP): Client ID, Client secret, Username, Password and IRP public key (and the GSP / IRP address for production).
  3. Save. GST invoices must be on and your store's PIN code set.

Generate

  1. On the Orders tab, open a B2B bill (a bill with the customer's GSTIN).
  2. In the GST e-invoice panel, click Generate e-invoice (IRN). The IRN, acknowledgement number and signed QR code appear on the order.

Every item needs an HSN code of 4 to 8 digits, and the customer on the bill needs an address and PIN code. If anything is missing, the register lists it before contacting the portal.

Generate an e-way bill

After the IRN, enter the Vehicle number and the Distance (km) (0 lets the portal work it out), then click Generate e-way bill. The e-way bill number and its validity appear on the order.

Cancel an e-invoice

Click Cancel e-invoice, choose a reason and add a remark if you like. The portal allows this within 24 hours, and it needs the Void / cancel sales permission. Cancelling the e-invoice does not cancel or refund the sale.

Export GSTR-1

  1. Go to More > Reports and scroll to GSTR-1.
  2. Pick the Month and click Prepare.
  3. Check the summary, then download Download GSTR-1 JSON, and the B2B CSV, B2CS CSV and HSN CSV if you need them.

The JSON covers B2B, B2CL, B2CS, the HSN summary and the document summary, for all of the store's orders in the month (online orders at your store's tax rate). Refunds are not included as credit notes. Review the files with your accountant before filing. You need the View staff activity permission and your store GSTIN set.
