Renewing Your Custom Domain
Your custom domain (e.g. www.yourstore.com) is registered with a domain provider — the company you bought it from, like GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Cloudflare, etc. LaunchMyStore points to that domain but doesn't own it, so renewal happens at the provider, not in your store admin.
When you'll be reminded
Your domain provider is the one that tracks your expiry date. Most providers send renewal reminder emails 30 / 14 / 7 / 1 day before expiry, so keep the email address on file with your registrar up to date. LaunchMyStore doesn't hold your domain's expiry date, so set a calendar reminder (or turn on auto-renew at your provider) if you want a backup nudge.
How to renew
- Open the renewal email or log in to your domain provider directly (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).
- Locate the domain in My domains.
- Click Renew and pay for another 1–10 year term.
- Wait a few minutes — the provider updates the domain's expiry date in WHOIS.
- In LaunchMyStore, go to Settings → Domains and click Check All Domains (or wait — it re-checks automatically every few hours).
If your domain has already expired
- Most registrars offer a 30–40 day grace period during which you can renew at the normal price.
- After grace ends, the domain enters a redemption period — renewal still possible but with a hefty extra fee (often $80–$150).
- If you wait too long, the domain is released and anyone can register it. Don't let it get that far.
Don't lose the connection
If you change DNS providers when renewing, you'll need to re-add LaunchMyStore's DNS records (the A record / CNAME shown in your admin under Settings → Domains → Connect existing domain). Until those records are correct, your storefront won't load on the custom domain.
Auto-renew is your friend
Every major provider supports auto-renew. Turn it on once and you'll never deal with this article again.
FAQ
Does LaunchMyStore renew my domain for me?
No. Your domain lives with the registrar you bought it from (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.), so it has to be renewed there. LaunchMyStore connects your existing domain to your store but doesn't register, sell, or renew domains on your behalf.
Will my store go offline if the domain expires?
The storefront stays online on your free .launchmystore.io subdomain. Only the custom-domain URL stops working until the domain is renewed and DNS is verified.
How do I find out which provider my domain is registered with?
Run a WHOIS lookup at lookup.icann.org. It shows the registrar's name and contact info.
Can I transfer my domain to a different registrar at renewal time?
Yes — ICANN policy lets you transfer at renewal. Start the transfer at your new registrar; it takes 5–7 days. DNS continues working throughout.
Do I need to re-add DNS records after renewal?
Only if you changed nameservers or DNS provider during the renewal. If you just paid to extend the same registration, no changes are needed.
