Pay later lets a regular customer take goods now and pay you later — customer credit, also called a khata. The register keeps each customer's balance, your bills and their payments, and stops new credit once a customer reaches their limit.

Before you start

  • Pay later is on by default in the Quick billing style. In Standard, switch it on under More > Register style. See POS register styles: Standard and Quick billing.
  • Go to More > Billing > Pay later (customer credit), switch on Allow pay later and set the Credit limit per customer (0 means no limit).

Book a bill to a customer's account

  1. Add the customer to the sale.
  2. Click Checkout Now and choose Pay later. You see what the customer already owes and their limit.
  3. If they pay part of it now, enter the amount under Paid now and choose Cash, UPI or Card. The rest is shown as Due on account.
  4. Click Book to customer's account.

Cash paid now goes into the drawer. A bill that would take the customer over their credit limit is refused. Pay later needs an internet connection.

See who owes you

Go to More > Pay later. It shows the Total outstanding and every customer with a balance, largest first. Open a customer to see their balance, limit, every bill (paid, partly paid or due) and every payment.

Record a payment

  1. On More > Pay later, open the customer and click Record payment.
  2. Enter the Amount received, or click Full balance.
  3. Choose how they paid: Cash, UPI, Card, Bank transfer or Other. Add a reference such as the UTR for non-cash payments.
  4. Click Save payment.

Payments clear the oldest bills first. Cash goes into this register's open drawer as a paid in.

Remind a customer or give them a statement

  • Remind on WhatsApp opens WhatsApp with a message showing their balance, ready for you to send.
  • Print statement prints a statement of account with their bills and payments.
