Restaurant mode turns the register into a table-service POS. Open a tab for each table, send new items to the kitchen as a kitchen order ticket (KOT), track tickets on a kitchen display, and take payment when the guests are done. Takeaway orders work the same way.
Before you start
- The Restaurant: tables, kitchen tickets, waiter app, recipes feature is on by default in the Quick billing style. In Standard, switch it on under More > Register style. See POS register styles: Standard and Quick billing.
- Go to More > Restaurant and set Register mode to Restaurant. In Retail mode, tables and kitchen tickets stay hidden.
- Changing the restaurant set-up needs permission to edit settings.
Set up tables
- On More > Restaurant, click Add table. Tables are named T1, T2 and so on.
- Give each table a Name, an Area (for example Patio) and its number of Seats.
- To add many at once, use Add several tables at once: set the name, the range (for example T1 to T10), the area and the seats.
- Click Save.
Table names must be unique. You can have up to 300 tables.
Set up kitchen stations
Stations split tickets by where the food is made — for example Grill, Bar and Tandoor.
- Under Kitchen stations, click Add station and enter the Station name.
- Click Choose categories and pick the product categories that station makes.
- Save.
Each item goes to the station that has its category; items in no station go to Kitchen. With no stations, every order goes on one Kitchen ticket. Pick each category itself — choosing a parent category doesn't include its sub-categories.
Serve a table
- On the register, tap Tables. Tables show as free, running or ready, with the bill so far and how long they have been open. Filter by area at the top.
- Tap a free table, enter how many guests, and tap Open.
- Add the items, then tap Send to kitchen. The kitchen ticket prints and appears on the kitchen display, and the register clears for the next table.
- Later, tap the table again to add more. Send to kitchen only sends what is new since the last ticket.
- When the guests ask for the bill, open the table and take payment as usual. The tab closes and the order records the table.
To move guests, open their tab, tap Tables, then Move table, and tap a free table.
For takeaway, tap Tables > New takeaway. Open takeaways are listed under Open takeaway orders.
Table tabs and takeaways are also listed under Held bills, on every register in the store.
Kitchen order tickets
- Tickets are numbered from #1 each day, across all your registers and phones. Each station's ticket gets its own number.
- A ticket shows the table, time, who sent it, each item with its add-ons and notes — and no prices.
- If you reduce or remove an item that was already sent, the next Send to kitchen sends a CANCEL ticket for it.
- Tickets print on the receipt printer paired under More > Hardware, or in a print window if none is paired. Tickets sent from the waiter app or from online orders appear on the kitchen display only.
- Discarding a tab cancels its open tickets on the kitchen display.
The kitchen display
Put a screen in the kitchen instead of, or as well as, printed tickets.
- On More > Restaurant, click Open kitchen display — or open the same page on the kitchen device while signed in to your admin.
- Choose the station this screen shows, or All stations. The device remembers it.
- Tap anywhere once to turn on the new-ticket sound. Use Full screen for a dedicated screen.
Each ticket shows a timer that turns amber at 10 minutes and red at 20. Tap Start when cooking begins, Ready when it is done and Served when it has gone out (with Undo for a few seconds). Cancellation tickets have a single Got it button. Recall brings back a ticket served or cancelled in the last 30 minutes.
When a ticket is Ready, its table shows Food ready on the register and in the waiter app.
