Create and use discount coupons
Discount coupons drive urgency, reward loyalty, and lift average order value. LaunchMyStore supports percentage, fixed-amount, free-shipping, BOGO, and tiered discounts — all configurable from one screen.
Open the coupons screen
- Sign in to your admin.
- Go to Marketing > Discount Coupons.
- Click Create coupon in the top right.
Coupon types
Percentage discount
Reduce the cart total by a percent. Example: SUMMER20 for 20% off orders above $50. Set:
- Coupon code — what the customer types (any memorable string).
- Discount value — the percentage (e.g., 20).
- Minimum order value (optional) — e.g., $50.
- Uses per customer — once, unlimited, or a custom limit.
- Total uses — overall cap before the coupon stops working.
- Validity — start and end dates.
- Applies to — all products, specific products, or specific collections.
Fixed-amount discount
Subtract a flat amount from the cart total. Example: $10 off orders of $100 or more. Enter $10 as the discount and $100 as the minimum.
Free shipping
Waive shipping at checkout. Useful as a first-purchase incentive or for orders above a threshold.
Buy X get Y (BOGO)
Add a free or discounted item when the customer buys a qualifying item. Example: Buy 1 t-shirt, get the second 50% off. The lowest-priced qualifying item gets the discount. Scope it to specific products or collections.
Tiered discounts (via apps)
For tiered rules like 10% off $50, 15% off $100, 20% off $200, install a discount-function app from the marketplace. Once installed, the function runs at checkout and applies the right tier automatically — no coupon code needed.
Tracking coupon performance
Open any coupon to see total uses, total discount given, and net revenue from coupon-using orders. Use this to decide which codes to keep and which to retire.
Sharing coupons
- Post the code in your top-bar announcement in the theme customizer.
- Email subscribers from your Newsletter list or marketing-automation app.
- Share on social with a graphic and the code.
- Print on packaging slips for the next purchase.
FAQ
Can a customer use two coupons on one order?
By default, one coupon code per order. Discount-function apps can stack on top of a coupon (for example, a function-based volume discount + a percentage coupon) when configured to.
How do I make a single-use code for one customer?
Set Uses per customer to 1 and Total uses to 1. Send the code only to that person.
What currency does a fixed coupon use?
Your store's primary currency. If a buyer checks out in a different currency, the fixed amount is converted at the live rate before being subtracted.
Can I exclude sale items?
Use the Applies to setting to restrict the coupon to specific collections (e.g., a "Full price" collection). Anything outside that collection won't qualify.
Why didn't the coupon apply?
Check the minimum order value, the validity dates, the per-customer use limit, and whether the cart contains qualifying products. The checkout shows a clear error when any rule blocks the code.
